JOB SUMMARY: NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking a Research Associate II to support the Public Health Research Department.
The Public Health Research team conducts work on a variety of public health topics including chronic disease prevention and health promotion, rural health, health disparities, health care delivery, and social determinants of health.
Preferably applicants will be based in one of our offices (Bethesda, MD, Chicago, IL, Cambridge, MA, or Atlanta, GA) with a hybrid office/work from home schedule.
DEPARTMENT: Public Health Research The Public Health Research team conducts work on a variety of public health topics including chronic disease prevention and health promotion, rural health, health disparities, health care delivery, and social determinants of health.
Our team includes prominent health policy experts, nationally recognized public health researchers with general and specialized expertise in areas such as rural health and tribal issues, skilled methodologists, and leaders in the field of survey design and implementation.
Our staff also brings expertise in populations of special interest and the intersection of public health and health care delivery.
We offer broad, multidisciplinary experiences spanning public health, epidemiology, statistics, policy, developmental psychology, economics, sociology, social work, and political science.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide general research support related to Public health research Prepare background research including literature reviews and environmental scans to inform instrument development and supporting research documentation.
Assist in the development of data collection protocols including instrument testing and scheduling data collection as appropriate.
Assist with data preparation, cleaning and analysis.
Take notes at meetings and prepare initial draft of minutes.
Document protocols and processes to facilitate data reporting.
Prepare memos, slides, tables and graphics.
Under the guidance of project leadership, prepare regular reporting as requested including data production reports, project progress reports, IRB/OMB packages, draft analyses.
Conduct ad hoc analyses using appropriate statistical packages, such as SAS or SPSS.
Under the direction of senior staff, support the development of new business by conducting background research on programs, award history, and agency goals and objectives; support proposal development efforts through coordination of document preparation and reproduction.
Serve as a liaison with other departments to execute project plans.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university in Social Science, Public Health, Health Policy or related field required.
Master’s Degree or 18 months of research experience in health sciences, public health, health policy with qualitative and/or quantitative methods and analysis public health, health policy with qualitative and/or quantitative methods and analysis required.
Understanding of routine sampling procedures and working knowledge of statistical software packages (SAS, SPSS, NVivo, Tableau, etc.
) preferred.
Must demonstrate effective workplace competencies, including: Effective problem-solving skills Adaptability and willingness to work on multiple projects simultaneously Strong written and verbal communications Attentiveness to detail Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team Proficiency with MS Office/M365 applications.
Occasional travel for site visits and meetings may be required.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: The pay range for this position is $61,000 - $71,000.
The budgeted range for this role is: $61,000 – $65,000.
This position is classified as regular.
