Stanley Consultants is currently seeking a talented Engineer-In-Training looking to pursue a career in transportation construction engineering in our Chicago, IL office.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience in roadway and bridge construction management for arterials for local agencies, as well as freeways and traffic interchanges for state projects.
This candidate will work with our senior construction services and project management staff on a comprehensive range of transportation construction projects.
Essential duties include: Prepares reports, coordinate progress meetings with the contractor and owner, manages the shop drawing review process and certifies Contractor payrolls, Reviews a Contractor’s subcontractor agreements (MBE/WBE/DBE), drafts and manages Stanley’s sub consultant agreements.
Monitors internal project budgets Ensures Stanley staff’s compliance with the Group Safety manual.
Reviews and submits monthly billings to the Client, analyzes and negotiates change orders.
Resolves contractor questions and drawing clarifications.
Maintains active client communications and assists the Business Development Manager or others with marketing, interviews and proposal preparation.
Background requirements include: Four year degree in civil engineering Previous experience in engineering or construction preferred Experience performing field engineering duties for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) or the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA) a plus.
Excellent visualization, communication, and documentation skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet) and an individual capable of performing in an unsupervised capacity.
A general knowledge of construction techniques and an ability to read plans and specs is mandatory.
Especially experience with IDOT plans, specifications, policies and procedures for project delivery and construction.
Ability to distribute learned knowledge to other Resident Project Representatives, Construction Observer’s, and Material Testing Technicians.
Ability to assist Construction Manager/Resident Engineer with many of their tasks and to be able to fill the Construction Managers/Resident Engineer’s role temporarily in their absence.
Aptitude to act as a positive representative of the Stanley Consultants, Inc.
core values and an active participation in an outside professional organization.
Dependent upon project specific requirements and Client requests, this position may require an individual with specific expertise in sub elements of construction.
Some examples, although not exhaustive are: Traffic Control, Landscaping, Utilities, Water, Sanitary Sewer, Storm Sewer, Roadway Pavement.
Base Compensation: $55,600 - $71,500 Stanley Consultants is committed to maintaining transparency in our hiring process, including providing information about compensation.
The starting salary for the successful candidate in this position is competitive and will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications and experience, geographic location, internal equity, company policy and practices.
