Services Engineering is a key function of Services NAM (Americas).
The function provides engineering expertise and technical solutions to the various Business Units (BU) of Services.
We support Operations and Maintenance (O&M) sites, as well as lead the design efforts for Asset Life Management (Modernizations, upgrades, overhauls of rail vehicles) and support the Parts Obsolescence BU.
We provide engineering support to all products maintained by Alstom that operate in the North American market (automated people movers, light rail vehicles, commuters, metros, locomotives…), as well as several of the infrastructure components (guideways, stations, depots, electrification and power distribution…).
We are 180 professionals, located in 17 different sites across the continent.
Alstom has an opening for a Parts and Components Obsolescence Electrical Engineer.
The position is posted for our Naperville,Il or Mississauga,On sites.
In Alstom Services, our focus is to provide excellence in customer support and develop innovative mobility solutions.
What are my responsibilities? As the Parts and Components Obsolescence Mechanical Engineer, you will apply your mechanical knowledge to design, verify and validate parts solutions when OEM parts have become obsolete.
You will reverse engineer or develop obsolescence solutions, work on system overhaul proposals, develop technical documentation for suppliers to meet FFF specifications and requirements.
You will provide assembly/repair instructions, new designs drawings, develop all the required documentation, create or update engineering change orders, review vendor technical proposals to ensure compliance to specifications and product safety.
You will actively participate and contribute to the aggressive growth of the Parts & Components business.
You will support a customer outreach program to proactively generate business opportunities such as major overhauls and Technical Support and Spares Supply Agreements (TSSSA).
You will: Ensure all the parts proposal will be meeting the customer specifications in form, fit and function, railway safety, reliability, industrial norms, and standards.
Be thoroughly familiar with the project specification and its requirements relating to the mechanical design tasks associated with the parts requested.
Prepare sketches, drawings, and documentation of assigned systems and meet deliverable schedule.
Coordinate and lead efforts with vendors to confirm compliancy with customer requirements.
You will interface with the end customer and vendors to ensure compliancy and validity of design Maintain your knowledge of rail and electrical-electronic norms and standards such as FRA, AAR, IEEE, ANSI etc.
Provide mechanical drawings, bills of material, detailed work scope, assembly and testing instructions Work on bids proposals to repair, redesign, and overhaul mechanical equipment, components and systems used in the rail industry.
Provide instructions to drafters and designers for the development and preparation of layouts, assembly, and detail drawings.
Provide engineering support during production of the part, specify and select components to be applied in the parts Provide customer technical support as needed.
Operate in the ALSTOM CCB Change Control Board Lead Design Reviews and Gate Reviews for mechanical parts.
You will work in multi-disciplinary teams with Customers, Rolling Stock Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Auditors, Platform (Tenders, Reference Library, REX), Quality, Validation and Testing.
What do I need to qualify for this job? Have experience in rail industry standards and design or with similar industry products such as transportation vehicles, and with mechanical devices, components and systems.
Have experience in preparing procurement specifications and technical requirements from customer specification to drive the design of the parts requested.
Candidate must be versatile, very autonomous, with hands-on experience, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment in unclear and ill-defined environments, resourceful to find information.
Minimum Qualifications University or Technical College degree in Railway Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Automation Engineering 5 years of industry related experience Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of rolling stock systems and components Knowledge of safety management systems and safety risk assessment Proficient in the use of CATIA V5 (or equivalent), MS Office, SAP, GSI, Maximo (other ERP tools) Knowledge of Alstom Design for Quality processes\ Alstom is the leading company in the mobility sector, solving the most interesting challenges for tomorrow’s mobility.
