The Automation Engineering (AE) group is responsible for working with new product development teams to specify, design, and oversee the quality of manufactured products.
Lead the development of product assembly, product inspection and automated test systems.
We are seeking a senior-level automation and test engineer experienced in designing, commissioning, and supporting automated systems.
This position is part of a recently created engineering team responsible for supporting the assembly, inspection and validation of new products.
The successful candidate will report to the Value Stream Engineering group that is located at S&C’s Chicago, IL and Franklin, WI locations.
Some travel will be required.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Work with new product development project teams to develop new assembly, inspection and test specifications to either build in-house or source from an automation system vendor Working with vendors to manage the development of automated assembly, inspection and test equipment.
Skilled in creating assembly, inspection and test specifications, developing processes, and tracking multiple projects to completion.
Strong electronics, mechanical, and project management background.
Experienced with a variety of sensors, actuators, controllers, relays, VFDs, non-contact sensors, and automated conveyor equipment Adept with working with cobots/robotics, building system, programming, and maintaining operations.
(Universal Robots, Fanac, Epson).
Utilizing problem-solving skills to root causes test system faults and implement proactive solutions to improve system reliability.
Utilizing quality feedback and metrics to collaboratively analyze and implement production testing improvements together with S&C and contract manufacturing teams.
Designing, assembling, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting electrical and electronic circuits, wire harnesses and connectors, test fixtures Developing LabVIEW test programs to meet the requirements of the product test specification.
Advanced skills with programming and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and computer-based systems and supporting production operations in an industrial setting.
Developing assembly, inspection and test procedures and conducting Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) plans, Commissioning Test plans, and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) plans for automated test equipment.
Training internal team members in standard work for operating production test equipment.
Creating supporting documentation along with vendor-created documents to create a release package to transfer the equipment to the facilities team for ongoing support.
Responsible for providing guidance, coaching, and training to other team members within the team.
To select this job as one of interest, you should have the following experience: Bachelor’s degree equivalent experience in Electrical, Computer, Software, or Electronics Engineering is required.
7+ years of experience in automation, electronics testing, embedded controls testing, electrical system testing, or improvement of automated production test equipment.
Experience in assembly, inspection and test equipment design, assembly, wiring, hardware and software development, Experience using and programming with National Instruments LabVIEW or Test-Stand software.
Allen Bradley PLC programming software.
Advanced skills with programming and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and computer-based system design, and support production operations in an industrial setting.
Ability to work hands-on, independently, and in cross-functional, multi-cultural project teams.
Ability to interface with contract manufacturers, S&C production operations, and project stakeholders.
Knowledge of Quality Management Systems, specifically ISO:9001.
Ability to use Microsoft products, CAD, and schematic capture software.
Experience using agile management and defect tracking tools (Base Camp, JIRA).
Enthusiasm, drive, and a sense of urgency with strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and teaming skills.
Proven ability to manage to work on multiple projects at a time while paying attention to detail.
Manage large projects or processes with limited oversight from your manager Capacity to deal with a high workload and deadline pressure including ability to work extended hours as necessary to meet deadlines.
Ability to travel without restrictions.
