Job Summary/Responsibilities: Senior Mechanical Engineer will work in a highly collaborative environment on a wide range of projects.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing building mechanical systems and supporting junior staff.
The Engineer will be responsible for performing the technical calculations and design, understanding the project requirements and the effort required to complete the work and applying critical thinking to quickly recognize issues and be part of the solution.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Mechanical engineering design from conceptual level through construction administration and post-occupancy Develops, designs, specifies, and witnesses the testing of mechanical systems, equipment, components, and materials, applying principles and techniques of mechanical engineering Writing reports for internal and external purposes based on findings Stays current on codes and technologies appropriate to the Mechanical discipline Organizes and conducts site visits for the purpose of data collection and evaluation of mechanical systems, equipment, components, and materials for projects with and without well-defined scopes Coordinating with the client and multiple disciplines and acting as mechanical engineer point of contact to ensure that projects are delivered within budget and on schedule Assist in proposal preparation and discipline plans that meet project requirements in conjunction with senior leadership.
Manage and work on multiple projects with other team members, acting as mentor and reviewer of work Qualifications Minimum Requirements: BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or similar field +6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education Preferred Qualifications: Professional Engineer (PE) registration with 10+ years of experience Strong mechanical code knowledge including International Fuel Gas Code, ASHRAE standards, NFPA and other relevant codes and standards Experience in designing complex hydronic systems, steam, VRF systems and sustainable designs.
This includes cooling towers, water cooled chillers, air cooled chillers, hot water and steam boilers, geothermal systems, heat exchangers etc.
Experience in developing specifications Instrumentation and controls design/engineering experience Medical gas piping design experience is a plus Experience in the following markets: Corporate Workplace and Commercial buildings, Federal Civilian and DoD, Healthcare, Laboratories, Mission Critical, Justice, and Higher Education projects Experience with sustainable design and certification such as LEED, WELL, etc.
Excellent communication skills: articulate, assertive, and confident Analyze equipment energy use for optimizing systems selection Plumbing and Fire Protection system design experience Ability to use load calculation software such as Trace700, Carrier HAP and other energy modeling software such as eQuest; IES is a plus.
Experience presenting to Clients Revit and CAD experience Additional Information This will be a hybrid position; up to 2 days work from home Relocation is available for this role Offered rate of compensation (Illinois locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
