Overview of Assistant Director TRIO Upward Bound The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting with the management, administration, and implementation of the Upward Bound program at Purdue University Northwest.
Since 1966, Purdue University’s Upward Bound Program has helped hundreds of students prepare for a successful college education.
Purdue’s Upward Bound Program is one of seven Federal TRIO Programs funded by the U.
S.
Department of Education.
All TRIO programs are vested in the notion that all committed students deserve an opportunity of a higher education (without regard to race, gender, national origin or ADA status) regardless of their family’s economic resources and or educational background.
However, specific rules for acceptance and participation vary by program type.
TRIO Upward Bound is a pre-college program providing supportive academic instruction and tutoring in literature, composition, mathematics and science on the PNW campus.
Upward Bound offers special workshops and seminars regarding careers, college admission and financial aid as well as activities that encourage parental involvement, personal responsibility, and positive self-esteem.
Our program fosters increased knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
The Upward Bound program is a federally funded program which is currently funded through May 31, 2027.
Continued funding is contingent upon a competitive application process.
Salary: $52,000-$55,000 annual Duties and Responsibilities of Assistant Director TRIO Upward Bound Develop the curriculum and provide oversight of curriculum planning for both Academic Year and Summer Academy.
This includes ensuring Core classes are aligned with State standards.
Evaluates these components for efficiency and impact on student outcomes and grant objectives.
Assist the Director with the completion of the Annual Performance Report.
Monitor and refine program methods.
Works with the Director in formulating and implementing policies and procedures, decision making, collection and assessment of data, and record management.
Assure effective systems with eligibility, determining program and/or participant needs, and working with both teacher and participant.
Conducts frequent site visits to partnering schools to monitor the UB staff in order to ensure quality control of the rendering and implementation of TRIO services.
Assists with recruitment of program participants.

Education of Assistant Director TRIO Upward Bound Master's Degree Master's Degree in Higher education, K-12 education, counseling, social work, or similar field preferred Experience of Assistant Director TRIO Upward Bound 2 years of experience in a student support capacity.
Student support experience in K-12 preferred Graduate assistantships and/or other similar experience may also be considered Demonstrated experience with designing challenging academic curriculum, assessing student needs and supervising others.
Demonstrated experience with assessment and evaluation Core Competencies of Assistant Director TRIO Upward Bound Must have understanding of the Indiana state standards.
Ability to comply with university, financial, and programmatic policies and procedures.
Ability to work independently, display strong decision-making, excellent organization skills, and ability to multi-task and prioritize requests.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders from community (students, parents, principals) to university administration.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work with a diverse group of people.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, and video conferencing software.
Some nights and weekends will be required to oversee tutoring, Saturday Academy, field trips, etc.
