Position Overview: At the Chicago Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery, our dedicated team goes beyond providing top-tier orthopedic care; we ensure our patients' medical and legal needs are seamlessly integrated, especially in cases involving workers' compensation.
Behind our esteemed physicians, there is a team of Medical Legal Assistants who are pivotal in preparing and managing these complex cases.
This role is vital in helping patients navigate the intricacies of workers' compensation claims, ensuring they receive the support and documentation needed for their recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
Play a critical role in collecting, organizing, and maintaining patients' medical records crucial for workers' compensation cases.
Liaise with healthcare providers to gather comprehensive medical documentation, ensuring records are ordered logically and are easily accessible.
Ensure all medical records are meticulously labeled, indexed, and updated in our electronic medical records system.
Index and catalog medical evidence for internal use and for coordination with external legal counsel representing our patients in workers' compensation claims.
Guarantee that all documentation is systematically organized and labeled for straightforward access during legal reviews and consultations.
Take charge of scheduling and coordinating depositions, including those involving medical experts, ensuring all parties are duly informed.
Manage the calendar for legal-medical events, ensuring seamless communication between our medical team, legal representatives, and patients.
Serve as a primary point of contact for patients undergoing workers' compensation processes, providing empathetic and informative communication.
Schedule patient appointments, keep patients informed about the status of their medical-legal cases, and address any questions or concerns with professionalism and care.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Legal Assistant, Paralegal, or similar role, preferably within a healthcare or workers' compensation law setting.
Strong understanding of medical terminology and familiarity with orthopedic procedures and treatments.
Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to manage complex medical and legal documentation.
Outstanding communication skills, capable of interacting effectively with patients, healthcare professionals, and legal teams.
Proficiency in electronic medical records systems and standard office software.
Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and other privacy laws.
