Primary Location US-IL-Northfield Manage revenue recognition of over $20 billion in net sales for Medline’s care channels in acute and non-acute in compliance with revenue accounting standard (ASC 606) Serve as key business partner in the analysis of contracts, including sales discounts, rebates, lease arrangements, multiple deliverables, software licenses, pricing, etc.
Lead process improvements in contract revenue accounting including enhanced reporting, system utilization/implementation, and internal controls Lead a team consisting of 2+ professionals MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Revenue recognition and reporting Review customer contracts for revenue recognition implications; work with sales and legal teams and exercise judgement within defined policies and authoritative literature to determine appropriate action and accounting for revenue transactions.
Partner with colleagues in finance, commercial, operations and IS to gather, understand and validate support for judgmental accounting positions.
Draft regional accounting position papers related to revenue recognition.
In partnership with the Finance Manager, communicate revenue accounting close results, providing variance explanation in significant accruals including chargebacks, rebates and fees.
Provide data-driven insights and input into forecasted KPI’s (forecast vs actual, rebate trends, profitability reporting), accruals and GTN trends to improve alignment between forecast and actual.
Cross-functional revenue governance Update and maintain the ASC 606 Policy and communicate updates of the same globally.
Establish and lead a Revenue and GTN Governance counsel including cross-functional key stakeholders.
Sustain continuous communication with key stakeholder groups and collaborate on business initiatives, contracting strategies to support change management, governance, and compliance.
Execute clear communication and education of ASC 606 principles with commercial, contracting and finance business partners, ensuring a seat at strategy discussions.
Drive industry best practice sharing and promote education and training of revenue, GTN, internal controls and operations topics to staff, leaders, and peers.
Revenue systems and controls Partner with internal controls team to design and maintain internal controls over revenue and GTN accounting and reporting.
Evaluate and risk assess the current GTN accrual process, systems, and controls, including upstream and downstream inputs and sources to advance GTN data and process capabilities.
Ensure integrity in the revenue accounting close in close partnership with finance, operations and IS.
Oversee the completion of the revenue related audit requests and assist in the resolution of any revenue related findings.
Represent Medline interests to internal and external parties - e.
g.
, CFO and divisional leadership interactions, FP&A/tax/treasury partnership, and presentations/schedules for leadership, sponsors, lenders, tax authorities, auditors, and other stakeholders.
Management responsibilities: Typically manages through multiple Managers and/or Supervisors Oversee major projects/programs/outcomes Interpret and execute policies for departments/projects; develop, recommend and implement new policies or modifications to existing policies Provide general guidelines and parameters for staff functioning Hiring staff, recommend pay increases, perform performance reviews, train and develop staff, assess personnel needs, assign and delegate, meet deliverable dates, interpret and ensure consistent application of organizational policies #LI- Hybrid Minimum Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business.
At least 10 years of accounting/finance experience, focused on customer contract revenue and related discounts from sales, gross to net (GTN) analytics/reporting, working knowledge of ASC 606 principles and related systems and internal controls.
ASC 606 subject matter expertise and experience applying advanced knowledge of related practices, systems, and controls.
Strong working knowledge of the contract life cycle management process in the Life Sciences industry encompassing a diverse set of customers, including hospitals, IDNs/health systems, group purchasing organizations (GPO) and wholesaler/distributor.
Experienced on the complexities and compliance requirements of GTN finance and analytics, including wholesaler chargebacks, distribution fees, customer and GPO rebates.
Experience leading process improvements and cross-functional projects, including change management.
Experience working with revenue management systems and ERP system (e.
g.
, SAP, Oracle, Vistex, Model N, Integri-chain).
Experience at a life sciences, global manufacturer or distribution company, with a mix of customer contracting strategies.
Experience coaching, mentoring, and training staff.
Advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using AVERAGE function, IF and SUMIF(S) functions, index/match, creating a pivot table).
Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills; ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to change.
Proven business partnership and change management experience.
PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS Master’s degree in Accounting/Finance or MBA desirable.
CPA, CGMA, or CMA.
SAP and Vistex experience strongly preferred.
