IP is very important in Chervon, and the IP department has built patent portfolios in key technology areas and products to provide Chervon with a competitive advantage.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The patent agent is responsible for the patent portfolio.
The agent is also responsible for preparation and prosecution of patent applications as well as responses.
The patent agent may assist with foreign patent applications.
The Patent Agent assists in patent search analysis and patent research; does patent knowledge consultation with various departments and shares new patent information; is responsible for the maintenance of the patent information database; investigates and analyzes relevant patent and technical information and develops and executes North American intellectual property (IP) strategy.
Responsibilities:
Drive the building of patent portfolios in key technology areas
Lead or co-lead invention harvesting or brainstorming sessions with innovators
Conduct a range of patent analyses and assessments such as related to new product innovations or technology landscapes
Provide advice to R&D engineers and product managers regarding patentability during new product development
Evaluate, develop, and implement patent filing for new products
Review US patent file from overseas IP colleagues
Competencies:
Strong communication, critical thinking, and writing skills to support effective communication with all levels of marketing, engineering, and leadership within the business
Self-motivation to immerse with the business and engineering teams to support business' needs and to quickly learn the business' goals and objectives
Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Able to work in Nanjing, China at least three months at beginning of joining Chervon (intermittently)
Able to work in Nanjing, China about one month every year from the following year
Independent problem solver
Knowledge of the power tool and outdoor power equipment industry is preferred
Ability to work with little or no supervision
Willingness to learn new skills to meet the ever-changing Power Tool and Outdoor Power Equipment industry
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or educational equivalent (mechanical or electrical engineering preferred)
Registered to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office
5+ years’ experience in patent strategy, patent portfolio, patent preparation, and prosecution (worked in power tool industry preferred)
Knowledge of IP tools like Patsnap
Travel:
Travel is expected to be 20% including international.
Initially it will be more.
