Posting Identification Number 33274 Position Overview The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-minded, and service-oriented team player to fill a Corrections Law Library Assistant (CLLA) position.
The CLLA provides extensive reference, instructional, and research services.
The person in this position will train and supervise Individuals in Custody law clerks; provide law library services to patrons and staff; develop and maintain the institutional law library; support facility programs and services; and maintain library order and security.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a team-oriented individual who is able to adapt to the changing needs of a dynamic, institutional library; be a self-starter and innovative thinker; and have a passion for Public Service.

Job Responsibilities Trains and supervises individuals in custody library law clerks in the use of legal library resources to provide assistance sought by individuals in custody library users.
Receives/reviews individuals in custody requests for assistance in the use of the institution law library.
Explains court procedures and filing requirements, without providing interpretations of substantive matters of law.
Develops and maintains the institution law library.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in such areas as legal, pre-legal, English, statistics or directly related coursework.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance) Prefers at least one (1) year work experience working with case law.
Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working as a paralegal or in a law library setting.
Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience writing reports.
Prefers ability to analyze and organize facts, evidence, and precedents and to draft written material in a clear and logical format.
Prefers at least one (1) year work experience gathering statistical data.
Prefers at least one (1) year experience using a legal law library.
Prefers at least one (1) year experience receiving and reviewing library requests.
Prefers at least one (1) year work experience working in a library setting.
Prefers at least one (1) year experience assisting individuals with law library materials.
Prefers at least one (1) year supervisory experience.
Conditions of Employment Requires certification as a Notary Public be obtained during probationary period and kept current while in position.
Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
Requires the ability to pass a drug screen.
