Our staff counsel is currently seeking a Legal Secretary in our Chicago, IL location.
This position can be hybrid, or in-office.
This is a full time/non-exempt role.
Overview/Summary:
• Assists attorneys and other legal personnel with administrative and clerical work.
• Knowledge of IL or WI court systems required.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
• Prepare final legal papers and correspondence of legal nature such as answer, affirmative defenses, jury demand, discovery, motions, subpoenas and all other type of legal pleadings from draft to final form.
• E-file documents with the court as needed; secure documents from the court portals.
• Manage calendar and assists in meeting deadlines.
• Coordinate meetings.
• Perform other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, composing and typing correspondence and reading and routing incoming mail.
• File correspondence and legal documents in office filing system (currently Legal Files).
• Ensure proper indexing, naming, classifying and filing of original legal documents.
Essential Skills and Experience:
• High School Graduate.
• Minimum of 2-4 years related insurance defense (or plaintiff personal injury) office experience.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
• Proficient in use of legal case management system.
• Knowledge of court e-filing system.
• Works well with others and establishes sound working relationships.
• Keyboard and typing skills.
Desired skills and experience:
• Strong organizational skills.
• Able to work independently or with minimal supervision.
• Flexibility and ability to work within a team environment.
Physical demands & work environment:
• Ability to use a personal computer and other standard office equipment.
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
