Job Summary
The VP - Head of Legal Disputes is responsible for managing and handling defaults and disputes and overseeing litigation by and against Kite Realty Group and its subsidiaries and affiliates
Job Responsibilities
Review and analyze leases, amendments, and other real estate contracts and legal documents to provide analysis, counsel and advice to the executive team and various business departments
Responsible for handling disputes and defaults involving tenants, contractors, vendors and other third parties
Responsible for managing pending and threatened litigation involving the company.
This includes proactively managing all aspect of a matter such as implementing strategy, conducting early matter assessments, overseeing discovery efforts, reviewing and editing outside counsel work product, and trial support
Responsible for maintaining tracking tools and reports produced by the litigation
Assist and support the company’s efforts in the implementation and refinement of forms, policies, templates and procedures to ensure best practices and regulatory compliance
Work with company’s outside auditor to advise of potential litigation risks and liabilities
Manages Legal Administrator Coordinator
Qualifications
Job Requirements
Juris Doctor Degree.
Licensed to practice in the State of Indiana, Illinois, or another acceptable jurisdiction.
Strong legal background in real estate and litigation.
Strong analytical skills.
Ability to collaborate with members of other departments, especially the leasing, property management and construction teams.
Requires significant legal background and experience in real estate leasing transactions, with an emphasis on retail leasing from a landlord or property owner's perspective; real estate sales and acquisitions; real estate lending transactions; tax matters relating to REIT structure and qualifications; and corporate, partnership and limited liability company organization, formalities, and taxation.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex real estate documents.
Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to draft complex technical contracts and agreements.
Ability to write clearly and persuasively.
