General Summary of Internship:
The Office of the General Counsel of the MacArthur Foundation currently consists of an eleven-person team that includes the Foundation’s Vice President and General Counsel, a Deputy General Counsel, a Senior Associate General Counsel, and an Associate General Counsel.
The Office of the General Counsel is seeking to provide an in-house internship opportunity to a student currently in law school who has completed at least one year, preferably two years, of law school.
The intern will assist the Office of the General Counsel on matters relating to the work of the Office, including state and federal tax-exempt law, general corporate law, intellectual property law, anti-terrorist financing laws, international law, and regulatory issues.
The intern will gain skills and experience in legal research, drafting memoranda and Foundation policies, grant agreements and other documents, reviewing contracts, and interfacing with Foundation staff.
Additionally, the intern will gain an understanding of the philanthropic sector and organizations working in different countries around the world supported by the Foundation’s national and international grantmaking programs.
The Foundation’s Chicago-based Staff work in a hybrid environment with 2 core days in the office.
Our summer interns are expected to be in the Chicagoland area for the duration of the program.
Qualifications:
Applicants for this internship position must have completed at least a year of law school, and preferably two years, at an accredited law school and be in good academic standing.
It would be preferred for the student to have completed a course in tax-exempt organization law.
This internship is based in Chicago, Illinois.
Our work environment is hybrid with designated in-office days and virtual days.
Interns will be required to reside in the Chicagoland area for the duration of the program.
