*Staff Attorney, Housing Law Practice *
The mission of the North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic (NSLAC) is to provide accessible, quality, equitable, free legal services in the areas of domestic violence, housing, and immigration to give low-income, at-risk community members access to justice and the opportunity to live productive and secure lives.
NSLAC is an 8-year-old dynamic nonprofit with a collaborative culture and the goal of becoming the model legal aid organization focused on suburban communities.
The Staff Attorney for the Housing Law Practice will be expected to assume the following responsibilities:
* Provide direct representation to low-income renters in housing cases including evictions, terminations from subsidized housing, conditions issues, lease disputes, and illegal lockouts;
* Cover cases at the Skokie, Rolling Meadows, and Waukegan courthouses;
* Assist with off-site legal clinics in the community;
* Conduct Know Your Rights presentations and workshops for the community on housing law related topics;
* Supervise and train law and undergraduate interns;
* Collaborate with the Domestic Violence Law Practice and Immigration Law Practice teams ensuring a holistic approach to client matters;
* Perform other responsibilities needed to ensure NSLAC team’s success.
*Qualifications/Skills: *
* J.
D.
degree and Illinois law license required;
* Understanding of the NSLAC’s public interest law/nonprofit mission;
* Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred;
* A demonstrated team-player with exemplary interpersonal skills in collaborating and communicating with others;
* Entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to work independently and manage own caseload;
* Ability to succeed in a fast-paced nonprofit start-up environment.
Salary: $63,500-75,000 depending on experience.
