Come join us, its “win-win!” Position Summary: The Staff Attorney will play a crucial role in providing legal counsel and support to our organization in matters related to mortgage lending, compliance, and regulatory affairs.
You will collaborate with various departments to advise the company on legal risks and to ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, an eye for detail, understanding of mortgage industry regulations, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities: •Offer legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on matters pertaining to mortgage lending, mortgage servicing, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
•Review, draft, and negotiate various contracts and agreements related to mortgage transactions, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
•Review internal and external business documents to ensure transactional adherence to Renovo guidelines and minimum requirements.
•Work closely with cross-functional teams, including credit, lending and servicing operations, marketing and human resources to address legal issues and support business objectives.
•Conduct legal research on financial regulations, compliance requirements, and relevant case law to support counsel in advising the company and Renovo’s lending and servicing operations.
•Stay up-to-date with relevant mortgage industry regulations, including but not limited to HMDA, ECOA, TILA, SAFE Act, and applicable state regulations, and ensure ongoing compliance with all requirements.
•Collaborate with external counsel in handling litigation matters related to mortgage transactions.
Provide support in legal actions and ensure effective representation.
•Support the development, maintenance and ongoing revision of compliance policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as industry best practices.
•Assist in the development and delivery of compliance training programs for employees, promoting a culture of compliance and ethical behavior.
•Maintain a centralized repository of vendor and corporate contracts for tracking contract milestones, renewal dates, termination clauses, and other key terms, to maximize risk mitigation.
•Collaborate with key stakeholders to monitor vendor performance against contract terms and service level agreements, identifying and addressing any deviations or issues.
•Contribute to the development and maintenance of licensing and other compliance-related databases and systems, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
•Other legal and compliance oriented duties as required.
Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate for this role will have: •Must be a licensed attorney with a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
•At least 2+ years’ experience years of experience practicing law in the mortgage industry or related field.
•At least 3 days in office in downtown Chicago Behavioral Characteristics: •Ethical Conduct: Uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism.
