*GENERAL SUMMARY*
The Civil Division with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office seeks a Paralegal to work alongside its attorneys on a myriad of legal issues.
The Civil Division operates like a general counsel’s office within a corporation, providing legal advice and representation to the entire entity.
Within Kane County, that includes the County Board, all county-wide elected officials, and a number of county departments.
The best candidate for this role will be highly self-motivated and comfortable in a team environment.
The candidate should also have prior governmental, law firm, or general counsel experience, as well as be someone with strong time management skills and the ability to balance conflicting priorities.
The role requires managing daily legal tasks, while also continuously communicating with attorneys and county clients.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal to work on _inter alia_ litigation actions in both state and federal courts, numerous Labor & employment matters, subpoenas, and municipal law.
*JOB FUNCTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS*
1.
Proficient in computer applications/software, other office equipment, and terminology relevant to the practice of litigation and general transactional matters.
2.
Working knowledge of the court system, procedures, and e-filing system is a requirement.
3.
Assist attorneys in all phases of legal work, including research, drafting, and reviewing legal documents.
4.
Managing and tracking document collections and productions, depositions, and other discovery.
5.
Maintain accurate records of case and client assignment information.
This includes, but is not limited to, ordering medical records, filing with courts, drafting legal documents, drafting resolutions/proclamations, communicating with county clients to provide updates or obtain internal records, and assisting attorneys with various projects or as otherwise directed.

Excellent organization skills and able to prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time restraints without heavy oversight.
7.
Possesses interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and staff.
8.
Must understand what it is to be a team player, where others rely on the timely completion of work and communication.
9.
Establishes and maintains calendar and deadline reminder systems.
10.
Maintains attorney and general office files, namely litigation files.

*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED*
1.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree;
2.
Paralegal certificate/degree preferred;
3.
Five (5) plus years work experience in a legal office (private or public) preferred;
4.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat DC;
5.
Familiarity with Federal court e-filing preferred;
6.
Knowledge or familiarity with litigation processes;
7.
Practical knowledge of electronic discovery platforms preferred;
8.
Ability to work independently and as a productive team member;
9.
Self-motivated with strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
10.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities;
11.
Strong time management skills, and attention to deadlines; and
12.
Lift, carry, and/or move files and storage boxes of approximately 20 lbs.

Reports to Chief of Civil Division, but with assignments from ASAs in division.
