SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Aquatic Manager, Aquatic Supervisor, Assistant Aquatic Manager, Site Specific Pool Manger
Supervises: N/A
BASIC FUNCTION: Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring patron safety in the Aquatic Facility by preventing and responding to emergencies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Recognize and respond quickly to all emergency situations involving distressed swimmers, ill, or injured patrons, etc.
Secure and maintain the safety of all patrons through proactive rule enforcement.
Serve as the primary rescuer in emergency rescue situations.
Administer oxygen support, in-line stabilization, CPR, AED and other necessary life sustaining measures until advanced medical support arrives.
Participate in daily in-service training for all schedule opening shifts and other mandatory in-services as scheduled to ensure consistency and maintain an exceptional standard of care.
Enforce over all facility rules and aquatic attraction rules.
Demonstrate and promote positive guest relations and exceptional customer service.
Comply with all requirements as set forth by American Red Cross and the Des Plaines Park District.
Work as a team with entire staff in all situations, especially during emergencies in accordance with the Emergency Action Plan.
Ability to work flexible shifts including early morning, daytime, evening, weekends and holidays.
OTHER DUTIES:
Rotate to all lifeguard stations in a timely manner to ensure smooth and fair rotation and break schedules.
Direct uncooperative or dissatisfied guests to a manager.
Make all safety issues or other questions and concerns known to either a Head Lifeguard or Facility Manager.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of staff lounge.
Assist other aquatic staff as requested.
Adhere to all safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual and Crisis Manual
Assist with emergency facility closing due to weather or other.
Assist with facility cleaning and sanitation.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Some High School education completed
Experience: Must be at least 15 years old
No prior work experience required
Certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard including lifeguarding, CPR, and first aid training.
Additional training in aquatics, CPR, and first aid is encouraged, but not required.
