*Pharmacy Technician* * _*Preference given to CPhT (nationally certificated pharmacy technicians).
*_ * _*Prior retail pharmacy experience not required but highly preferred.
*_ * _*Once hired, opportunities for growth include becoming a certified immunizer and/or a certified pharmacy technician (CPhT) through company-sponsored training.
*_ *Purpose: *Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service.
Assist the pharmacist in maintaining the clean and orderly appearance of the pharmacy area, prioritizing work, and processing prescription orders in compliance with Federal and State laws and company policies and procedures.
*Accountable and Reports to:* Pharmacist, Store Director, Asst.
Store Director, Pharmacy District Manager *PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:* * Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting care, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
* Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the associate’s designated department or elsewhere in the store.
* Genuinely thanks each customer and invites them back.
* Assists customers by: (examples include) escorting them to the products they’re looking for (when possible), securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience * Maintains a professional and friendly manner with all patients when responding to their requests or when necessary referring them to the Pharmacists in accordance with GOT guidelines.
* Answers the phone promptly and courteously; refers phone requests from physicians, patients, and others which require a pharmacist’s knowledge, to the pharmacists.
* Accepts the written prescription or refill information from patients confirms completeness of patient record and requests missing information as appropriate, and retrieves the patient’s pharmacy record(s) for verification by the pharmacists.
* Applies basic prescription reading skills to the written prescription upon data entry.
Basic prescription reading skills include: dosage form differentiation, directions, pharmacy calculations and product recognition.
* Accesses the pharmacy computer to obtain complete patient record (on both cash and third party prescriptions) and verifies third party parameters.
* Inputs, accesses, processes, and retrieves data from the pharmacy computer, including speed codes and drug interaction data, as state laws permit.
* Directs professional inquiries to the pharmacist.
* Where allowed by law, informs the patient of the availability of generic alternative products.
* Maintains proper organization of product in each bay and at each counter in regards to established company procedures.
* Maintains the clean appearance of the pharmacy area.
* Replenishes pharmacy supply of vials, bottles, bags, and other supplies.
* Fills pharmacy product orders, to specific bay locations where state law allows.
* Operates patient sales register by processing individual patient purchases over the scanner or utilizing a scan gun; accurately reads and records prices for items which will not scan.
* Totals patient orders; collects cash, checks, and credit cards, gift certificates and coupons from patients; and enters amount and type of payment in accordance with established company policies and procedures.
* Accurately counts out appropriate change to the patient.
* Bags all products; affixes the receipt to the bag and places company stickers on items that are not in bags.
* Follows legal requirements with respect to prescription filling, insurance and third party procedures and HIPAA.
* If a drive-thru pharmacy, able to operate microphone and drive-thru box.
* Maintains strict adherence to company guidelines related to personal hygiene and Department Appearance Standards.
* Adheres to all company policies, procedures, Safety and Sanitation regulations, and individual store guidelines.
* Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
* Protects associates and customers by removing potential hazards from the sales floor when possible, or notifies appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
*SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS: (These are considered occasional in nature)* * Returns discarded non-pharmacy merchandise to its proper locations.
* In areas outside of the pharmacy, keeps the merchandise clean, stocked and properly displayed.
* Performs other duties as assigned by Pharmacist, technician specialist, store management or PDM.
*SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB:* * Must meet all state laws and regulations.
* The ability to read, understand and interpret technical written data.
* Successfully completed company sponsored Technician Development Program and passed Technician Development Program examination.
* Ability to do simple addition, subtraction, copying figures, counting, and recording.
* Possess the ability to understand and follow written, verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies orally or in writing.
* Visual requirements include clarity of vision at a distance of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet with color vision, depth perception and field of vision.
* Must be able to work shifts varying in length and time, including nights, weekends and holidays.
*WORKING CONDITIONS:* The duties for this position are normally conducted in a store environment.
There is significant responsibility to maintain customer service levels and handle multiple priorities.
The position is occasionally exposed to dust, cleaning chemicals, and equipment movement hazards.
This is a fast paced work environment where stressful situations are encountered.
*EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM JOB:* Computer, printer, fax machine, copy machine trash and cardboard compactors, intercom, step ladder.
*CONTACTS:* Has daily contact with co workers, suppliers/vendors and customers.
